Dear Regis Community,
I hope this message finds you well as we begin a new semester at Regis. A hallmark of Regis College is the rich diversity of our community. Each of you bring a unique perspective and experience to our campus community. Those perspectives and experiences are grounded in respect and compassion and mirror the founding principles of our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston:
- Gracious hospitality
- Love and service of the Dear Neighbor without distinction
- Peaceful resolution of conflict
- Care for all God’s creation
You may have heard or read about executive orders signed by President Trump following his inauguration on Monday. You may be wondering how they may impact you or your loved ones and the university’s role during times such as these. Like the different experiences and perspective each of you bring to Regis, so, too, are our reactions to what has unfolded.
As an educator at Regis for 40 years, I am hopeful that each member of our community will respectfully discuss and examine these issues in a way that reflects our pursuit of the truth and understanding. This is our responsibility as educators.
Regardless of your reaction to these issues, know that the leadership of the university supports all members of our community, including those who are concerned about the executive orders. Each of you is valued and loved. It is our job to ensure that you continue to feel valued, loved, and safe. If anyone has been impacted by the events of the past week, please feel free to contact any of the offices listed toward the end of this message. Your Regis community is here for you.
On Fri., Jan. 31, the Center for Inclusive Excellence will host a virtual Lunch and Learn Workshop to help educate the community about Immigration Rights in Massachusetts. It is open to all members of the Regis community. If you would like to attend, you may register here.
Thank you for sharing your unique perspective and experience with the Regis community. Through you, we are building a community of respect, compassion and understanding.
Sincerely,
Antoinette Hays, PhD, RN
President
